LA Times Headline: “South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley today reversed her position and called for the Confederate flag to be moved from the grounds of the state Capitol.”

Just when it seemed the racially motivated shooting of several African-American parishioners in South Carolina by a white man could not be worse, events took an immediate turn for the worse when other men representing Local, State and National government refused to remove the confederate flag from atop the Capitol Building. Earlier today those men even threatened to instead remove the flag of the United States.
All, it seems, in some misguided attempt by these men to defend the universal symbol of white men’s fear, self-hatred and self-loathing in the guise of bigotry. We understand and accept that men simply do not get it.
What made less sense however was that initially Governor Nikki Haley agreed it should remain. Today she reversed her position and called for the flag’s removal. This is precisely what we mean when we say only a woman’s voice can help restore balance.
Thank you so much Nikki for your efforts in the face of men’s obvious inability to grasp the obvious.
